Faith-Based Organizational Membership

Because we believe in the Gospel message of justice and accountability, the members of the Region VI Coalition for Responsible Investment (CRI) use concerted action as shareholders in business corporations to speak to the problems of social justice and to contribute to their resolution by concrete action.

Our focus is to

bulletidentify issues and assist members with filing and co-filing shareholder resolutions
bulletcoordinate the involvement of members in company dialogues
bulletprovide a vehicle for education on the issues and socially responsible investing in general.

As members of the Interfaith Center for Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) we are able to link our member interests with specific issues and provide up-to-date information for member action.  This web site is also designed to assist members and the occasional visitor with socially responsible investment (SRI) issues and information as well as provide easy access to other resources.  A quarterly newsletter keeps members updated on current issues and member involvement.

In Coalition With Others

The Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR), a coalition of 275+ institutional investors representing diverse religious backgrounds, was formed in 1971.  Together with other members of ICCR, the Region VI CRI covenants to hold corporations accountable by using the power of persuasion backed by economic pressure.  We sponsor shareholder resolutions, meet with management, vote our proxies and screen our investments.

If you are NOT an institutional investor but have an interest in joining with others involved in the work of corporate responsibility, consider ICCR's ADVOCATE membership.

Issues of Concern

Working for justice, our 25-member organizations are forceful advocates for just policies and patient persuaders for systemic reforms.  Some of our current issues are:

bulletsupporting sustainable wages and safe environment protection for workers in U.S. corporations in developing countries.
bulletpromoting equal opportunity and affirmative action and diversity on boards
bulletchallenging the standards and principles for global corporate accountability
bulletencouraging corporate accountability on energy and environmental issues.

A Recent 'Success'

In April,2010 the Environmental Protection Agency announced rules that could significantly reduce mountaintop-removal mining in the U.S. For longtime activists like Allen Johnson, co-founder of the group Christians for the Mountains (CFTM), it's proof that "hope is not always in vain" - but only one step of a long journey towards environmental and economic justice in coal-mining areas of Appalachia.  (Sojourners)
